Pediatric cancer in Quebec
- Cancer is the leading cause of death among persons aged 1 to 18;
- One person in 400 is diagnosed with cancer before the age of 15;
- More than half of children with cancer are under 5 years old at the time of diagnosis;
- Only one third of children with cancer have leukemia; the remaining two thirds have solid tumours;
- Some 70% of persons treated at the Centre are from outside Montreal;
- The incidence of cancer is higher among boys than among girls;
- Since 1980, rates of recovery from lymphoblastic leukemia have gone from 35% to more than 85%.

- The Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau, the only facility of its kind in Quebec, enjoys an international reputation;
- All pediatric bone marrow transplants in Quebec are conducted at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau;
- More than 1,100 children are followed annually at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau;
- The average age of children treated at the Centre is 7;
- Since it opened in 1995, the Centre has recorded close to 180,000 outpatient visits and treatments (15,000 per year);
- More than 80 researchers work at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
