The Midi du Tour: A Resounding Success!
The Midi du Tour virtual cycling races were held on June 4, 2009 . For the second consecutive year, public personalities and people from the business community took part in this friendly competition aimed at raising funds for the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
Held in conjunction with the Tour CIBC Charles-Bruneau , this activity raised the impressive sum of $45,000 for children with cancer.
Messrs. Chuck Comeau, Sébastien Lefebvre and Jeff Stinco of the group Simple Plan took part in the Celebrities’ Race, as did Messrs. Dominic Arpin, Michel Jean , Georges Laraque and André Prud’Homme.
Ms. Josée Lavigueur acted as host of the race, and Émilie Dubé, spokesperson for the 14th edition of the CIBC Charles-Bruneau Tour, was pleased to present the participation medals, notably to the winner of the Celebrities’ Race, Mr. Georges Laraque of the Montreal Canadiens.
A total of six corporate teams competed for the Midi du Tour Cup. Among them were two all-women teams, both of which put in an impressive performance by completing the same course as the men without once giving up. Teams led by Lyne Lambert (SAP Canada ) and Véronique St-Germain (Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP) thus went head to head against groups led by Marc Barbeau of Strikeman Elliott, Robert Demers of Samson Bélair / Deloitte & Touche, Sylvain Rigaud of Ogilvy Renault and François Rivard of the National Bank of Canada .
Results
After a tight race, the team of Strikeman Elliot was finally crowned the champion.

The Return of Ambassadors’ Day
This year, the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau is proud to mark the return of Ambassadors’ Day , which allows an additional 30 cyclists to join the field of riders, among them three members of the group Simple Plan . The 30 additional cyclists will make the trip from St-Jérôme to Montreal on July 9, 2009 , the final day of the CIBC Charles-Bruneau Tour. Mayor Gérald Tremblay and Mr. Pierre Bruneau, vice-president and spokesperson for the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau, will be on hand to welcome our intrepid cyclists to Montreal ’s City Hall, as will our organizers, who will present a cheque for the total proceeds raised by the event’s 14th edition.
Thanks to the initiative shown by Mayor Yves Lévesque of Trois Rivières, there will be a second Ambassadors’ Day this year. The journée des Ambassadeurs de Trois-Rivières (Trois-Rivières Ambassadors’ Day) takes place on July 6, 2009 , the first day of the CIBC Charles-Bruneau Tour. The ambassadors will thus join the cyclists on the Tour for the 55 kilometre trek between the municipality of St-Barthélemy and the city of Trois-Rivières . Each cyclist has an objective to raise more than $1,500 during the course of the day.
