CHU de Québec-Université Laval

The Unité d’hémato-oncologie pédiatrique Charles-Bruneau at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval will meet the following needs:

  • Each year, 70 to 75 new cases are diagnosed at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval;
  • Close to 40% of children treated for cancer come from the Québec City region;
  • Close to three in four children present with solid tumours, while the remaining one-quarter of children are diagnosed with leukemia.

History

In November 2012, the Fondation Charles-Bruneau announced a major donation of $5 million to the Centre mère-enfant Soleil at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval for purposes of redeveloping its pediatric oncology unit.

The all-new Unité d’hémato-oncologie pédiatrique Charles-Bruneau spans an area of 1,490 m2 and is located on the ground floor of the Centre mère-enfant Soleil. Work operations are currently in progress, and the unit is slated to open in the fall of 2018.

The overall cost of the project is estimated at close to $10 million. To complement the donation of $5 million from  the Fondation Charles-Bruneau, the CHU de Québec-Université Laval and the Fondation du CHU de Québec have pledged to secure the remaining financing package.
