$300,050 raised at the Coupe Charles-Bruneau in Quebec City for pediatric cancer research

The second edition of the Coupe Charles-Bruneau in Quebec City, presented by IGA in collaboration with Scotiabank, was a resounding success. Over 300 participants came together in a festive and supportive atmosphere to support pediatric cancer research, raising a record $300,050 net for the Quebec City event.

For the second year, the tournament was held at ExpoCité, on Place Jean-Béliveau. Families turned out in force to cheer on the teams and participating public figures, including Foundation spokespeople Paul Doucet and Florence Breton, Hugo Giroux, Isabelle Éthier, Simon Pigeon, Meeker Guerrier, Antoine Pilon, Maxime Gibeault, Anthony Therrien and a number of Quebec Remparts players.

Each player has pledged to raise a minimum of $500 in support of pediatric hematology-oncology research. This financial mobilization is of crucial importance, given that 20% of children with cancer are still resistant to current treatments. These funds will enable us to pursue the research that is essential if all children are to grow up healthy and free of after-effects and complications.

Quebec City, an important hub for the Charles-Bruneau Foundation

In 2018, the Charles-Bruneau Foundation marked a major turning point in the fight against pediatric cancer in the Capitale-Nationale region by inaugurating the Charles-Bruneau Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit at the CHU de Québec-Université Laval. This state-of-the-art center offers highly specialized care to children with cancer from the region and surrounding areas. Every year, some 75 new children are diagnosed with cancer, and more than 800 youngsters are currently being followed. Thanks to the Foundation’s unwavering commitment, these patients benefit from the best possible chances of recovery, and from care that is adapted and designed especially for them.

In Quebec, 40% of children diagnosed with cancer are treated in the Capitale-Nationale region, a testament to the Fondation Charles-Bruneau’s leadership in the region.

Inspiring young heroes and heroines!

For this second edition of the Coupe Charles-Bruneau in Quebec City, three young Heroes and Heroines joined the participants. They are Béatrice (7 years old), Mathyas (15 years old) and Hugo (7 years old), three cheerful and engaging youngsters who are undergoing or have undergone treatment at the Unité d’hémato-oncologie pédiatrique Charles-Bruneau at CHU de Québec-Université Laval.
