Over $1 million raised at the Charles-Bruneau Cup presented by IGA

The second edition of the Charles-Bruneau Cup presented by IGA, a festive and friendly ball field hockey tournament, was held on September 3rd at the IGA Stadium in Montreal. While the amount raised in 2021 had already far exceeded expectations, it was with great emotion that the 423 participants in the event witnessed the unveiling of the incredible amount of $1 010 000 raised for this second edition. This important amount will allow the Foundation to continue supporting children with cancer throughout Quebec.

Created in honour of Charles, a great field hockey fan and player, the event allowed the players and young heroes to share touching moments with the public personalities present at the event: host Andy-Mailly-Pressoir, former NHL players Steve Bégin and Steven Finn, comedians Jean-Thomas Jobin and Daniel Savoie, and actors Hugo Giroux, Jean-François Beaupré, Joey Scarpellino, Marc Bélanger, Simon Pigeon and Pierre-Yves Cardinal. Louis Jean, sports journalist and proud ambassador of the event, as well as Paul Doucet and Pierre Bruneau, spokespersons for the Foundation, were also present.

“It warms my heart to see, once again, the extraordinary mobilization of the Foundation’s donors, partners and allies. To see them gathered around Charles’ great passion makes the event even more moving for Ginette and me. The money raised today will help support pediatric cancer research, enabling a cure for children whose cancer is resistant to treatment and improving the quality of life of those in remission. Together, we are making a real difference in their lives,” added Pierre Bruneau, spokesperson for the Foundation.

“IGA has been committed to supporting pediatric hemato-oncology projects and research in Quebec for many years. We are very proud to present this 2nd edition of the Charles-Bruneau Cup and to have more than 160 players, representing 14 of the 35 participating teams, from the large IGA family. Throughout the tournament, we had the pleasure of feeding and quenching the participants through the IGA food zone. It was only natural for us to be there again and to continue our commitment to this important cause that is close to our hearts,” said Carl Pichette, vice-president of marketing, Quebec, Sobeys.
