Who are the Heroes of the Circuit bleu Charles-Bruneau?

Samyra, Miro and Rania share their stories with us in order to spread the word about this cause that touches them personally. Paddlers, you can meet them on site during the event!

Samyra, 17 years old

Samyra is a spirited 17-year-old with a passion for figure skating, canvas painting and scrapbooking. In 2019, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.

“You could say I won the cancer lottery, because Ewing’s sarcoma is a rare tumor that affects only three in a million people a year. I took it very hard at first, but I knew there was no point in dwelling on the downside. I knew in my heart that I had to stay positive.”

And that’s what she did! Now in remission, Samyra was able to get back on the ice and get back to her favourite sport.

Miro, 3 years old

When he was only two months old, Miro was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer, a stage 4 neuroblastoma. After six cycles of chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, a bone marrow transplant, transfusions, hundreds of injections and blood tests, the one they call Miro the superhero is now in remission. And he is in great shape!

At the age of three, Miro is a field hockey fanatic. He loves to attend Drummondville Voltigeurs games and when he grows up, he would like to be a goalie. Full of energy, Miro also likes to play with his little sister Géraldine, dance, swing in the park and eat watermelon. Nothing can stop him!

Rania, 18 years old

Rania is a smiling young woman who is always in a good mood. In April 2017, she was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and then relapsed 6 months after her initial remission. Now healthy, Rania has been in remission for four years.

Drawing, painting, photography, playing the guitar and going outdoors are part of her daily life. She still manages to find time to study in order to fulfill her biggest dream: to become a doctor or nurse in oncology.

Her other goals include giving back to the foundations that helped her during her illness, such as the Charles-Bruneau Foundation. She has decided to form a team for the Circuit bleu and will be paddling alongside the other participants on the Le Classique course on Sunday.

To encourage the participants who will be paddling for a childhood without cancer on September 16, 17 and 18 in the name of young people like Samyra, Miro and Rania, it is possible to make a donation on the site of the Circuit Bleu presented by Pelican.
